The Portland Timbers Seen Through a Canon 800mm/5.6L IS

I’m currently testing a Canon 800mm/5.6L IS lens and a Canon 1D Mark IV camera. I shot this Timbers game at ISO’s from 2500 to 5000 as the light changed. I was very impressed with the focusing and handling ability of the lens. It’s is a large and long, but not that heavy. I think a 400/2.8 is more difficult to handle. I especially like the reach from at the goal. What it was perfect.

Blitzen Trapper at The Woods

I get some great assignments. I won’t lie. I showed up at The Woods ridiculously early for the Blitzen Trapper show. It was an unannounced show before they head out on tour. I was able to shoot their rehearsal and also a band group photo. The Woods is an old funeral home and it’s a very nice space with plenty of quirky corners to shoot. Here are a few snaps from that night.

Patrick’s Neighbors are The Lord’s Own Choir

I shot this band in their living room when I was visiting Patrick Pendergast’s house the other night in Northeast Portland. They are Patrick’s neighbors and they call themselves The Lord’s Own Choir. They’re a great bunch a people and I had a great time listening to them perform.

Oden Down, Roy Up

I was helping Bruce Ely at the Trail Blazers game against the Houston Rockets when Greg Oden went down with a fractured patella. Bruce made the best shots of the night from his favorite spot on the floor that showed the gruesome knee injury. He also was able to go back near the locker room and make some behind the scenes images while I covered the action. Much to my surprise, it ended up being quite a game. Here’s my photo showing Brandon Roy scoring the winning goal. Here’s the story.
