Instead, one of the founding principals of Boora Architects smiles, his bright eyes scanning the double-door front entry to the low-slung, California-style ranch snuggled into the Southwest Portland hills.

“Hello,” Nicole Olszewski says, standing in the doorway, 1 1/2-year-old Grace perched on her hip.

Just over two years ago, Nicole and Brett Olszewski bought the house Oringdulph designed and his brother built.

THE TOUR: This year’s tour contains three very contemporary modern homes that feature all the latest in materials, two midcentury modern homes maintained in their original condition, and three midcentury modern homes that have been respectfully reinterpreted.

WHEN: Saturday, April 17

TICKETS: $50 each; $40 students. On sale at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22 (at streetofeames.org). Advance ticket packages (two $50 tickets plus $150 donation) now on sale through Sunday.

EXTRA EXHIBIT: Beginning April 1 and continuing through the month, the American Institute of Architects Portland is hosting an exhibit featuring photographs and information on this year’s homes. Three-inch-thick cedar decking vaults overhead, while a stunning, unchecked, old-growth cedar beam runs the length of the living room.

I shot this band in their living room when I was visiting Patrick Pendergast’s house the other night in Northeast Portland. They are Patrick’s neighbors and they call themselves The Lord’s Own Choir. They’re a great bunch a people and I had a great time listening to them perform.

The Trail Blazers suffered a potentially devastating setback Saturday night against the Houston Rockets as one of the faces of the franchise suffered another serious injury.

Greg Oden, one of the few bright spots in what has been a discouraging start to the season, fractured the patella in his left knee and will likely miss the rest of the season.
