Biography

After a four-year enlistment in the Marine Corps, I attended Portland State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Communications.

After a temporary one-year position at The Columbian newspaper in 1993, I was hired full-time as a staff photographer for the 60,000 daily newspaper in Vancouver, Washington, where I worked for five years.

In 1997, I was hired as a staff photographer at The Register-Guard where I enjoy working on a staff that is accomplished enough be recognized as a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for our coverage of the Thurston High School shooting.

My work has been published in a broad range of publications such as People, Washington Post, New York Times, Denver Post, The Christian Science Monitor, Baseball Weekly, ESPN The Magazine, The Sporting News, Rocky Mountain News, Maxim, Cosmopolitan (UK), U.S. News and World Report, America 24/7 book project and several European magazines. I have won four individual awards in NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism contest and the Pictures of the Year competition. In 2003 I was the runner-up Photographer of the Year for NPPA Region 11 monthly clip contest. In 2006, I was a featured speaker and team leader at the Eddie Adams Workshop.

My wife, Carrie and I have twins named Cole and Greta. They were born in August 1998. We live in Eugene, Oregon.
